Zhirenne

Personality

• The gryphon race in Zhirenne’s home Realm is a proud one. They have a long history of valiant and courageous rescues, feats of strength, purity of heart, and the like. As such, gryphons are taught from a young age that they are magnificent creatures, and as a general rule, the other creatures of the Realm accept that notion. This means that Zhirenne is somewhat vain and very proud. She loves to be praised and complimented, tries her best to make herself look as radiant and awe-inspiring as she can, and often makes a point of seeming aloof and sophisticated to strangers.
  
  At heart, however, Zhirenne (or Wren, as she was affectionately teased back home) is a kind and gentle soul with dreams of becoming a great legend like her ancestors. She has an innate ability to tell when someone is lying, and this has prevented many a mishap throughout the gryphon’s short life, as there are those who seek to take advantage of the creatures or, worse, capture them and sell them to those who believe gryphons to be nothing more than livestock.
  
  In actual fact, gryphons are sentient creatures that are fully as intelligent as human beings, though they have a slightly different perspective of the world. Zhirenne can read and speak English fluently, though her speaking voice is hindered by her large beak, which causes the creature to roll her Rs and hiss all of her sibilants. She can, of course, speak her native gryphonic language as well, which is a collection of high pitched whistles, beak clicks, and body language that seems to have evolved from a very crude language back when the species was new. The speech impediment caused by her beak is something of a sore point for Zhirenne, whose pride doesn’t permit anything less than perfection in all aspects of the creature’s life. She becomes irritable when certain words are beyond her grasp, or when she accidentally mispronounces something that ought to have been ‘easy.’
  
  At 20 years of age, Zhirenne is still a youngster. As with human children, Renne is barely out of her teenaged years and is yearning to make a name for herself in the world. She is sometimes brash, sometimes impetuous, but generally brave and acting with the best intentions at heart. This odd combination of vanity coupled with her desire to become a hero often results in some interesting accidents, such as the one that landed Zhirenne in this Realm in the first place.
